West College Scotland is one of the largest educational institutions in the UK, with over 30,000 students and 1,200 staff. The further and higher education college offers a wide variety of courses, which range from full-time to part-time, evening classes to distance learning, and are constantly striving to reduce operating costs in order to continue providing inventive and inspirational methods of teaching.
The innovative technology of the CircoSense3000 was introduced to West College Scotland, who were intrigued to discover the savings that could be achieved on their hot water costs. The College agreed to install a ‘Proof of Concept’ at their Clydebank campus, whereby the CircoSense3000 device was fitted onto the calorifier system in one of the three boiler rooms and run for a 6-week cycle.
Campbell & Kennedy was appointed to install the device, which throughout the ‘Proof of Concept’ learned the hot water usage patterns of the building, firstly gathering a baseline reading and then using this data to predict the hot water usage moving forward. The smart technology of the CircoSense3000 device then ensured that hot water was always available on demand, whilst turning off the pump when not required.
At the end of the Proof of Concept period, it was determined that CircoSense3000 had resulted in 41% savings for the energy supply, leading to reduced energy bills and lower carbon emissions.
