Today is Scottish Family Business Day and we are proud to be part of a group that generates over 25% of UK GDP. Studies in the past decade have shown that around 65% of all private businesses in the UK are family controlled therefore the family business sector is a force to be reckoned with.
Campbell & Kennedy has been established for over 60 years and has grown from a local TV and radio installer in Clydebank to the innovative multi-sector company it is today. We employ over 140 employees, have offices nationwide and have successfully secured places on a number of large procurement frameworks throughout the UK including Renfrewshire Council, ESPO and Procurement for Housing. We are proud to have carefully managed this growth to make sure our company retains a familiar family feel.
Paul Andrews, Founder & Editor-in-Chief at Family Business United, stated “the contribution made by the family business sector in Scotland is significant and deserves to be recognised. Scottish Family Business Day 2017 is the inaugural nationwide campaign to put the family business sector on the map”.
Successful family firms are focused on the business and take a long term view – succession planning and the development of the next generation of family business leaders remains a key item on the family business agenda. C&K currently employs eight members of the Kennedy family in a diverse range of roles ensuring the family ethos is instilled throughout all parts of the business.
Scottish Family Business Day 2017 is a chance to share best practice, highlight the resources available and provide assistance to family businesses across the region on the next stage of their journey, as well as championing the cause and recognising the contribution that these businesses make. Family firms are the backbone of the Scottish economy and we hope they remain so for generations to come.
