In what way does the Shared Dish System differ from other Communal Systems?

The Shared Dish system or FSD will serve a building with only Satellite viewing.  Sky TV subsidise the cost of equipment and installation of an FSD system and as such there is no allowance for TV Aerial or Radio reception which may be found in other communal systems such as I.R.S. Another differentiator with the FSD system is that only those customers that are subscribing to a Sky TV will be connected at the time of the install. Although we can connect you up after the installation is completed ( this may incur extra costs if access equipment is required), the system will be fitted to allow everyone in the building to take advantage of it, but only the properties where there are subscribing customers to Sky will have cabling. The FSD system is subsidised by Sky because of this, the cost to the customer is significantly lower than alternate systems types. In order to qualify for the FSD subsidy the building must meet certain criteria set by Sky most importantly: The building must be no more than 3 Storeys in height. Must have no more than 48 properties and there should be a minimum of 3 new subscribers to a Sky TV Package.

What does the system look like?

There is a choice of cable colour for the outside of the building: black, brown and white. The survey will indicate the route and colour of the cable runs. Where possible we’ll make sure all cables are discreetly located – for example, by hiding them behind existing drainpipes and grouping them together. The dish is just 80cm in diameter and can be located discreetly alongside its own cabinet.

Are there a maximum number of flats for a shared dish?

Yes, 24, but we can cater for up to 48 flats by installing two dishes and cabinets. We can also offer alternative solutions for larger blocks.

Why is it limited to 48 flats?

This is due to the fact that the Shared Dish uniquely uses its own power supply – removing the need for a separate electrical supply, combined with a limit to the cable run. 48 flats is the ideal capacity. We can also offer alternative solutions for larger blocks.

What happens if the block is more than three storey’s high?

Due to health and safety requirements, buildings over three stories high may incur additional costs for special access equipment hire. Following a survey, we can quote for access equipment and pre-wiring solution for those flats that can only be reached with access equipment. That way, if someone else in your block chooses to get Sky TV after we’ve enabled the block, the access equipment won’t be required again.

Who pays if we want a bespoke communal TV solution?

Any costs for bespoke requirements would be paid for by you or the Managing Agent, and depending on the lease, may come out of the service charge. However in most cases a Shared Dish is the best option for Sky TV in flats, and the only cost incurred is for the earth safety requirements.

Do current subscribers count towards the three subscribers?

No. However we can quote to remove existing dishes and connect existing subscribers to the Shared Dish.

What happens if there are already dishes on the wall?

We can agree to take down the dish and connect the existing subscribers to the shared system for an agreed fee.

How can I check the progress of my block’s installation?
