Campbell and Kennedy were contracted by OPL Ltd to design and install a solar PV system for Sureclean’s new office in Aberdeenshire.
After an initial meeting with the client, Campbell and Kennedy carried out a detailed site survey of the premises, before designing a PV system to maximise the useable roof space whilst avoiding covering any of the skylights on the roof.
Following design sign-off by the client, Campbell & Kennedy liaised with the DNO, during which time C&K were made aware of grid constraint issues which meant that the 133kW proposal could not be connected until 2017 with a large grid connection fee.
Campbell & Kennedy came up with a solution to this issue by re-designing the system to incorporate a bespoke custom built export restriction panel that would allow Sureclean to install the full 133kW benefiting from both the free energy and revenue from the feed-in-tariff, whilst restricting their export capacity to 50kW.
“ We are pleased to be able to say that from the initial contact through to completion Campbell & Kennedy have been very proactive in dealing with the site specific issues and the installation team were very professional in their attitude to safety and delivery on site.“

The DNO approved this new system specification allowing Sureclean to proceed with the installation. The new specification also reduced the cost of the original proposed DNO
C&K successfully completed the installation of all panels as per the agreed specification. C&K installed all panels in December 2014 followed by a final commissioning in January 2015.
